In Machu Picchu, Peru has perhaps the most breathtaking archaeological site in the world. Yet it also offers a wealth of other magnificent sights: ancient, colonial and scenic. Staying in good hotels of great character, with some free time to relax, this tour reveals Peru's many wonders, including Cuzco and Arequipa, the Colca Canyon, Lake Titicaca and of course Machu Picchu.

Day 01

To Lima

Transfer to the Casa Andina Private Collection / Miraflores Park+ for 2 nights. (N)

Day 02

Lima

Morning tour of colonial and modern Lima, including San Isidro local market and the architectural masterpiece of San Francisco Monastery. Afternoon at leisure. (B)

Day 03

To Arequipa

Fly over the Andes to Arequipa, an attractive city of beautiful white buildings and colonnaded plazas, surrounded by a dramatic landscape. Stay at El Cabildo / Libertador+ for 2 nights. Afternoon city tour, including Santa Teresa Monastery and the Juanita Mummy Museum. (B)

Day 04

Arequipa

Visit the beautiful Santa Catalina convent before exploring the countryside surrounding Arequipa and the traditional town of Sogay. Afternoon at leisure. (B)

Day 05

To Colca

Drive into the Andes towards the Colca Canyon (approximately 5 hours on some unpaved road with stops en route). The scenery here is breathtaking, with snowy volcanic peaks, herds of llama and the terraces of the Colca Valley. Stay 2 nights at Casa Andina / Colca Lodge+. (B, L, D)

Day 06

Colca Canyon

Early morning excursion to Condor's Cross, where the magnificent condor may be seen flying over the canyon. Visit the town of Maca, famed for its pre- Colombian textiles. Afternoon at leisure to take a walk in the canyon or relax in the natural hot springs. (B, L, D)

Day 07

To Lake Titicaca

Travel by road to Puno and Lake Titicaca (approximately 7 hours). Transfer to the Jose Antonio Hotel / Libertador+, set on the shores of the lake, for 2 nights. (B, L)

Day 08

Lake Titicaca

Full day tour of the floating islands of Lake Titicaca, inhabited by the Uros Indians, and Taquile Island, with panoramic lake views. (B, L)

Day 09

To Cuzco

Take the Andean Explorer train to Cuzco (approximately 10 hours). Relax over lunch and enjoy a pisco sour and music in the observation car as you pass high Andean peaks, mountain streams and rivers, cultivated terraces and small valley towns. Transfer to the Casa Andina Private Collection / Monasterio (De Luxe Room)+ for 2 nights. (B, L)

Day 10

Cuzco

Morning tour of Cuzco, including the San Blas district, Koricancha and the cathedral. Afternoon at leisure in the Inca capital. (B)

Day 11

To the Sacred Valley

Full day visit to the Indian market at Pisac and the Inca fortress at Ollantaytambo, an astounding feat of construction and ingenuity. Stay overnight in the Sacred Valley at the Casa Andina Private Collection / Aranwa Hotel+. (B, L)

Day 12

To Machu Picchu

Drive to Ollanta and take the train to Machu Picchu. Tour the ruins and stay overnight at Sumaq Machu Picchu / Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge+. (B, L, D)

Day 13

To Cuzco

Morning at leisure to further explore the magnificent site (second entry included). Return to Cuzco by rail and road. Transfer to the Casa Andina Private Collection / Monasterio (De Luxe Room)+ for 1 night. (B) You may wish to spend an extra night in Cuzco (from A$130 per person, twin share, A$260 single room) please advise at the time of booking.

Day 14

To Lima

Transfer to the airport and fly to Lima where the tour ends. (B)
