Chile - Ojos del Salado Expedition (17 days)
Located in the Norte Chico (Little North), close to the Argentinean border, the soaring snow capped cone of Ojos del Salado (6893m) provides an unmistakable backdrop on the vast Andean altiplano. For the local people the volcano is regarded in awe, while for the well prepared trekker the opportunity of climbing the world's highest volcano (and the second highest peak in the Americas) is equally compelling.
An inspiring trek through the dramatic canyons and atop the volcanic cones of the Atacama region will provide ideal preparation and acclimatisation for our climb of Ojos del Salado. Whilst the climb is not technical, the final stages of the ascent involves some easy rock scrambling and an excellent level of fitness is required. From the summit we will be rewarded with stunning views of nearby volcanic cones and the vast expanse of the altiplano below.
