New Zealand - technical Mountaineering Course (10 days)
Our Technical Mountaineering Course (TMC) is a comprehensive and intensive alpine climbing course that will kick-start your mountaineering exploits. For more than 20 years it has been the course for anyone serious about learning alpine climbing in New Zealand. Most of Australasia's most prominent climbers (and many mountain guides) began their careers on a TMC. The TMC is for people who want a solid grounding in all alpine skills. Previous alpine (snow & ice) climbing experience is not required, but we expect participants to be fit, keen to learn and already have some rope skills.
- Day 1: Meet at Mount Cook Village for course briefing and equipment check.
- Day 2: Fly to course venue, which is usually at one of the mountain huts at the head of the Tasman Glacier.
- Days 3 to 8: Technical Mountaineering Course. Activities include theory, instruction and some practical climbing.
- Day 9: Trek or optional flight back to Mount Cook Village.
- Day 10: Course finishes around midday.
Note: itinerary is weather dependant and flying days may change.
