New Zealand - Mount Cook Aoraki Ascent (18 days)
Aoraki - Mount Cook (3764m) is a mountaineer's mountain, a sustained and tough climb where the rewards match the commitment. The aspiring climber needs strong alpine climbing skills to make Mount Cook achievable. A 10 day Alpine Climbing Course offers the grounding required in safe snow, rock and ice technique, glacier travel, rope work, self rescue, route finding and alpine skills. Following this up with a major alpine climb like Mt Cook-Aoraki which will both test and consolidate these skills.
- DAY 1: Meet and briefing in Wanaka, fly in to Southern Alps
- DAYS 2 to 7: Training in alpine techniques while on the mountains
- DAYS 8 & 9: Climb significant alpine peak
- DAY 10: Walk out, return to Wanaka
- DAYS 11 & 12: Rest Days in Wanaka
- DAY 13: Drive to Mount Cook Village Check gear, fly in to Plateau Hut
- DAY 14: Acclimatisation day, ascend a practice peak
- DAYS 15 & 16: Summit day(s), early start at 1.00am, and finish 7.00pm! or break the climb into two days - climb part of the route to a high bivouac
- DAY 17: Commence walk out (walk our via Tasman Glacier) or weather contingency day
- DAY 18: Second day of walk out, weather contingency day or alternative activity (rock climbing at Mt Cook Village or in Wanaka) Drive back to Wanaka when trip concludes
