Turkey - Central Turkey & the Black Sea (15 days)
The hidden jewels of Turkey are waiting to be discovered and this spectacular two-week journey through the Black Sea region and the country's heartland is sure to inspire all travellers. Beauty and serenity can be found in the lakes and coastal towns that dot the Black Sea coast. With narrow cobblestone laneways and historic buildings Safranbolu is virtually a living museum, whilst Amasya contains some of the best examples of Ottoman architecture.
Further into the interior, we explore some of the finest examples of Seljuk buildings in the town of Sivas. Divine presence can be found on Mount Nemrut, with its colossal statues of gods from ancient Greek and Roman times. The beehive houses in biblical Harran reveal fascinating insights into village life. Astounding Cappadocia has inspired poets and writers for centuries with its unique rock formations and troglodyte dwellings. A city that spans two continents, Istanbul beckons with grand palaces and mosques - testament to a long and glorious past.
- Day 1: (Sun) Arrive in Istanbul.
- Day 2: Travel to Lake Avant in Bolu Province. Visit Yedigöller National Park and walk along the Seven Lakes.
- Day 3: Drive to Amasra. Explore the old town, including the bazaar and Kilise Camii.
- Day 4: Drive to Safranbolu, a World Heritage site known for its traditional buildings. Visit the village of Yörük.
- Day 5: Travel to spectacular Amasya and discover traditional Ottoman houses and Seljuk tombs.
- Day 6: Travel to Sivas. Visit the impressive Seljuk sites of Çifte Minare Medrese and the Gök Medrese.
- Day 7: Drive to Divriði and explore the beautiful mosque. Continue to charming Darende village and walk to waterfalls at Günpinar.
- Day 8: Visit Mount Nemrut National Park and discover colossal statues of the gods. Return to Kahta.
- Day 9:Drive to Harran and see unique mud brick beehive houses. Travel to the 'city of prophets', Urfa, and visit the bazaar and crusader castle.
- Day 10: Travel to Kahramanmaras and visit the castle and Ulu Camii (mosque).
- Day 11: Travel to Cappadocia and discover fascinating landscape. Visit Sarihan Caravanserai and explore Pasabaglar, home to the amazing fairy chimneys.
- Day 12: Walk through the Akvadi (White Valley) (3 hours) and visit Uchisar Castle. Walk through Pigeon Valley and observe fascinating rock formations (2 hours).
- Days 13-15: Visit Çavusin village, including the basilica dedicated to St John the Baptist. Walk through Rose Valley (3 hours). Fly back to Istanbul. Visit Topkapi Palace, Aya Sofia and Blue Mosque. Tour ends after breakfast on Day 15 in Istanbul.
