Tibet - Roof of the World (13 days)
Tales of magic and mystery have long attracted travellers to this once-forbidden land. Today, the lure of Tibet remains the same - the fascinating culture, magnificent monasteries and awesome mountain scenery combine to make this journey one of the most spectacular in the world. In Lhasa we explore the magnificent Potala Palace and the lively Barkhor area. Continuing across the arid Tibetan Plateau we reach Gyantse, at the head of the old trading route to India, and Shigatse, home to the famous Tashilhunpo Monastery.
The roads we travel are spectacular, crossing the Pang-la Pass to Rongphu Monastery and the base camp of the world's highest peak, Mount Everest - one of the highlights of our trip. The final leg of our extraordinary journey sees us descending through an impressive gorge and winding our way through the terraced hillsides of Nepal back to Kathmandu.
