India - Rajasthan’s Royal Palaces (Luxury - 13 days)
Rajasthan is a patchwork of major and minor dynasties held together over centuries by a history of conquest, chivalry, intermarriage and lots of intrigue. The cities, deserts and northern plains of Rajasthan are home to a spectacular collection of palaces, castles and forts that now operate as historical hotels.
We have selected the best properties in the key locations and combined them with Delhi and Agra. We can also custom design your own special journey through the royal palaces and forts of Rajasthan.
- DAY 1 DELHI - Arrive in Delhi where your Wildlife Safari representative will meet and accompany you to your hotel and assist with your registration. You will receive a welcome kit and a briefing on arrival. The rest of the day is at leisure.
- DAY 2 DELHI - A full day sightseeing Delhi with your private guide. Start with Old Delhi, where you visit the famous Red Fort, the Jama Masjid mosque and Raj Ghat Sikh temple. The rickshaw ride through the bustling streets of the commercial old city is a unique experience. Afternoon sightseeing in New Delhi visiting Qutab Minar and driving past the imperial buildings of the Indian government. There is also time to shop at one of the quaint markets in Delhi before you return to your hotel. A special dinner at "Bukhara" restaurant this evening, famous for its Mughal cuisine.
- DAY 3 AGRA - Morning drive to Agra arriving at your luxury hotel in Agra. Your room has a view of the magnificent Taj Mahal. Your guide will meet you late afternoon and take you on a tour of Agra Fort before proceeding by tonga, open horse carriage, to The Taj Mahal where you can explore the world's most famous monument to love. Enjoy sunset at The Taj before returning to your hotel.
- DAY 4 SAMODE - Your guide will be waiting to take you back to the Taj Mahal for sunrise at the monument, before you return to your hotel for breakfast. Continue by road to Samode, driving through rural Rajasthan, visiting the deserted Mughal city of Fatehpur Sikri, with its outstanding architecture. Afternoon arrival at your luxury palace hotel in Samode in time to enjoy a traditional high tea in the palace grounds. Your local guide will meet you early this evening and take you on a visit by camel cart to the village of Samode where you can watch local craftsmen at their traditional work. Proceed to a very special outdoor dinner in the nearby sand dunes.
- DAY 5 JAIPUR - A full day sightseeing tour to Jaipur commencing with the Amber Fort, a vast collection of palaces and buildings on the summit of a hill. Ride an elephant to meet with your guide who will take you on an exploration of the buildings. Drive back to the city to visit the City Palace, with its eclectic collection, and Palace of the Winds, with its elaborate facade. A stop is made at the Jantar Mantar, Astronomical Observatory, before returning to your hotel in Samode.
- DAY 6 + 7 NIMAJ - Breakfast at your hotel and proceed to Nimaj by your private vehicle and driver arriving at your luxury tented camp overlooking the lake. This camp is owned and operated by the Nimaj family who welcome their guests as their own family. The entire next day is spent exploring the lake shore, bird watching, visiting the temples and surrounding areas or just relaxing in the camp. Enjoy sunset cocktails on the hill before returning for dinner by the lake shore.
- DAY 8 ROHET - Continue through southwest Rajasthan to the small village of Rohet, arriving at Rohet Garh, the fortified desert home of the Rathores family, built on the shores of a lake and bird sanctuary. The family still live at Rohet Garh and will take you horse riding to the nearby Bishnoi tribal lands. Your guide will take you on a walking tour of a Bishnoi village.
- DAY 9 JODHPUR - A short drive to Jodhpur, where you will switch to a vintage car owned by the Jodhpur royal family, an exclusive arrangement for Wildlife Safari guests. Visit Mehrangarh Fort, situated on the summit of a hill overlooking Jodhpur, and Jaswant Thada. Afternoon return to Rohet where you can explore the lake shore before sunset.
- DAY 10 NARLAI - A leisurely morning drive to Narlai, visiting the Ranakpur Jain Temples. Arrive at the village of Narlai where you have the afternoon to explore and meet the local people. We have arranged a unique dinner experience for you this evening at the Narlai village.
- DAY 11 UDAIPUR - Drive through the beautiful Aravalli Hills visiting Kumbhalgarh Fort, the largest fort complex in India, enroute to the city of Udaipur. Late afternoon arrival in Udaipur with boat transfer across the lake to your luxury hotel, a former royal palace, built on an island.
- DAY 12 UDAIPUR - Your guide will meet you at your hotel and take you on a walking tour of the Udaipur City Palace, the royal residence, with its eclectic collections on display. Wander through the local markets looking for a bargain before visiting the Jagdish temple. Afternoon, exclusive boat ride on Lake Pichola with cocktails served while enjoying the sunset.
- DAY 13 DEPARTURE - Morning transfer to Udaipur airport for your flight to Delhi. A Wildlife Safari representative will meet and assist you with your departure formalities.
