Bhutan - The Snowman Trek (28 days)

Very few visitors have entered the tiny Himalayan Kingdom of Bhutan and even fewer have been privileged to trek into her high mountains. This challenging trek is one of the most rewarding experiences for the committed walker. Most of the trek is spent above 4000 metres above sea level and many high passes are crossed, with the highest being at 5260 metres. The trek initially follows the trekking route to Chomolhari Base Camp and then crosses to Laya to access the remote Lunana region - an area adorned with numerous 7000-metre peaks.

The route passes many isolated farming settlements and yak herder encampments, all the time surrounded by amazing mountain views. This outstanding adventure also spends time in Paro and Thimphu, where we explore the exotic Buddhist monasteries and uncover the culture of this unique country.

  • Day 1: (Sun) Arrive in Paro and transfer to hotel.
  • Day 2: Free day to explore Paro and surrounding valley.
  • Day 3: Drive to Drukgyel Dzong to start trek.
  • Day 4: Steady ascent following Paro Valley, with chances of wildlife sightings.
  • Day 5: Break above tree line to Chomolhari Base Camp (4050m), close to massive icefall.
  • Day 6: A day in open yak pastures. Ascend to rocky Nyelela Pass (4250m).
  • Days 7-8: Trek to Lingshi Dzong, then continue at high altitude and cross Gobula Pass (4350m).
  • Day 9: Climb over Jarela Pass (4600m), then descend to Tcharijathang Valley to enter the Laya area.
  • Days 10-17: Traverse high alpine passes to Narithang and Woche.
  • Days 18-19: Trekking in the remote Lunana region.
  • Days 20-25: Continue trekking above 4000 metres to reach final camp at Nikachu.
  • Day 26: End trek and travel to Thimphu.
  • Day 27: Visit the attractions of Thimphu. Drive to Paro.
  • Day 28: Trip ends in Paro this morning (Sat).
