Costa Rica - Quetzals of the Cloudforest (15 days)
Flanked on one side by the Caribbean Sea and the other by the Pacific Ocean, tiny Costa Rica is a land of abundant natural attractions with a rich diverse flora and fauna. From coast to coast, it is only 118 kilometres at the narrowest point, but along the spine of the Cordillera rise high mountains and volcanoes: Chirripo Grande peak reaches 3,820m. It has more rivers and volume of water per square kilometre than any other country in the world except New Zealand and consequently there is lush vegetation with 1200 species of orchids. Nearly 27% of the landmass is protected and in the park system we find 139 species of animals and 10% of the world's butterflies.
It has long been Central America's most peaceful nation; the democracy is over 100 years old, and the army was abolished over forty years ago. It was the first Central American country to allow women in to high schools and the government. Adult literacy is as high as 93% and the economy, based on the export of bananas and coffee, has produced the highest standard of living in Central America. A true naturalist's paradise, come and see what this peace loving, friendly country can offer.
